Sunday (Not so) Funday

Hello friends…*sad face*…I am having a not so fun weekend…during one of our trail runs I somehow managed to chip part of my toe nail!

How did it happen? Well, I like to play a game with my humom called “Find the Stump” where I will look for a stump, jump on top of it and I get a treat! I play this game with Wilhelmina too, it’s her humom that told us about this game!

Mia: Where’s my treat?!?!

Well, if you ever meet me, you will see that I love food, and I will do almost anything for food! There was this really tall stump that I usually have NO PROBLEMS climbing but this one time for some reason I got stuck half way. I tried my HARDEST TO HOLD ON (because I really wanted the treat) but alas…I couldn’t pull myself up to the top and I fell awkwardly. My toe nail must have somehow caught onto the wood and it ripped a little.

I didn’t show any signs of pain or discomfort until that night when I was on the bed ready for sleepytime. At first my humom thought I pulled a muscle (again). *side note: I pulled a leg muscle a couple of weeks ago from running too hard on the beach with Auntie*

I was being very needy and asking for lots of attention all afternoon and night.

Mia: Mom, stop playing on your iPad and cuddle with me

When my humom looked closer, it was indeed my nail that was damaged.

We went to see the vet right away. My humom was expecting the worse but fortunately the vet said the damage wasn’t too bad! She just clipped the hanging nail part off and then cleaned my foot.

Hooray! No sedation! My humom has to soak my foot in a pink solution 2-3 times a day for 5-10 minutes for the next few days.  My humom is not looking forward to it because she knows I won’t make it easy for her. Boy does she know me well! BOL!

Lucky for her I love my food and I can be easily bribed.

My humom was hoping she could clean it for longer than 5 mins but hello???? Does she not realize that 5 mins really feels like 5 YEARS in dog life????

The vet also said no beach or trails for 5 days!!! Is she crazy???

So now my humom has to get creative and find ways to keep me busy indoors. Good luck with that! BOL!

One of my favorite toys is my Kong Wobbler. But it doesn’t keep me occupied for very long because I can get those treats out pretty easily with my special whacking skills!

I recently got a new treat toy, I don’t know what it’s called but it’s pretty tricky! I think my humom got it on purpose because she thought it would be a hard challenge for me.

 I kept trying and trying…

Mia: Um….excuse me, a little space here? I need to get this treat out!

But eventually I GOT IT!!!!!!! TAH DAH!!!!! My humom isn’t very impressed with this toy. She was told I would be occupied for HOURS! Well humans, you have underestimated me! BOL!

Mia: So…What’s next Mom??

Poor, Mia! At least it wasn’t too serious. Finding indoor games for an active dog has always been a struggle for me as well, stuffed Kongs, tug of war, training, and fetch are the usual ones for me, but even those don’t seem to be enough for some of my fosters.

Poor baby. During Lexi’s last year, she got a back nail caught in a berber rug and it bled so severely I had to take her to the vet and (not for the faint of heart) it was barely hanging on, so they finished removing it. She quickly got her revenge by vigorously shaking her back foot so hard that it sprayed blood all over everything including the walls in the exam room.Nail pull, less than 1 minute. Clean up, 15 minutes. I’m glad yours just needed a simple clip, even though I am sure that hurt, too.

Oh Mia, so sorry you are on the ‘injured reserve’ list. Once a dew claw got caught and it was a m.e.s.s. cleaning up after it. Does your mum ever try to get you to ‘find it?’ My mum does but I feign dumbness so she usually helps me (don’t tell her, she’ll make me work next time). She hides something in the living room when I’m not watching and then tells me to find it. I love my treats but don’t like hard work finding them, especially when I can manipulate mom to make it easy for me. Feel better soon.

Thanks Sam! We do actually have a “find it” game where my humom hides my toy squirrel but I find it too easily so I get bored. If the treats are too hard to get out of the toy I will give up pretty easily too. I’m very much an instant gratification type of girl! BOL!

Five days of no beach or trail visits? Five minutes of soaking your foot? Your vet really knows a lot about torture . . . but you have to listen and you have to do your best not to drive your mom crazy while she helps you mend. You know you’ll get extra treats, right? 😉

you poor baby!! So glad you will be ok though! I LOVE my KONG treat dispensers, (I have a few of them)…………to burn off energy, believe it or not I do NOT like taking walks! (yes, I am a high-energy Sheltie but I am a strange duck, or so Mom says BOL!!), I like to bark at my neighbor’s dog, and play with my treat dispensers and chase my kitty brother around our condo. Barks and licks and love, Dakota

Hi Mia! I’m glad you didnt hurt your nail worse than what it was. Good job staying in the pink stuff for 5 minutes! That is really tough to do.
We like to play find it.a treat is tossed and we look for it.
We also have a game with tennis balls, treats, and a cupcake pan. Treats are put in the cupcake pan and a tennis ball is on top of each section. The idea is to sniff find the treats and take the tennis ball off and eat the treat. When we first played it there was a treat in all the sections, then in only a few sections. It’s a lot of fun.
We have kongs that get filled with peanut butter and frozen, it keeps us busy for a couple of hours. I hope your nail feels better soon.

Hi Bonnie! Thanks for all the suggestions! We should try that tennis ball/cupcake pan one! The only thing is…I’m so ball obsessed that I might be more interested in chewing the tennis ball than find the treat. BOL! Definitely worth a try though! We do play a “find it” game with my squirrel toy but it gets too easy for me to find the squirrel since we live in a condo. I got too smart for my frozen kong/food toys because I will just wait until it defrosts and then lick it up in 5 mins. BOL!

I do hope your poor paw gets well soon
You are pawsome at extracting TREATS, I’m very impressed
Being a ‘Toy’ dog or lap dog as I’d rather be called, i don’t have that surplus energy like you have, maybe you could share some with me when you’re on R&R?
That’d give my peeps a shock, hehe
    Loves and licky kisses

Oh wow, you tried SO hard to climb that stump! Glad your paw wasn’t worse. Momma does training refreshers when we need to stay busy inside. It’s not as physically active, but it tires us out mentally, so that helps just as much!

OH NOES! Oh gurl, that sucks you can’t go on walkies or trail hikes or to the beach! Wells, at least it wasn’t too bad. Ma’s Angel Annie had a whole nail almost come all the way off after the vettie trimmed her nails! It was a four month ordeal of vettie visits and wrapping and all kinds of ‘fun’ stuffs…needless to say, she is sooooo happy you won’t have to go through any of that stuffs! I thinks your Moms has everythings under control, butts if you needs some help tiring out, I’m sure I can hop a train and be there in two shakes of a squirrel’s tail! BOL
